Paul (Xjunkie) and I headed east to the shore for a shot at some public land birds...we both had birds to our name so we were just gonna do something crazy and didnt make up our minds on where to go til we crossed the bridge.......We both had some knowledge of birds on piece that I am pretty familiar with so we decide on that one......

Quieeeeeetttttt!!!! not a soul around but no gobbles either...Went where I had seen them in the past and hung out...jumped around a couple times and tried to get a response but nada....went to retrieve Pauls misplaced striker from one of our calling positions and ran into a gang of Toms making there way toward us but got past us...they were gettin it!!!

We had seen a bunch of turkey sign on a sandy spot in that general direction....figured they were headed there so we looped around and hunkered down......I threw out a Gobble and Paul yelped a couple times....I scratched the slate a few times and they went ballistic!!! When we got a response.....It happened quick........They were upset about the sound of a gobbler with a hen and came in to rectify the situation!!! at 80 yards we discussed........

"you take right ...me left... on the count of 1.. 2 boom ...1.. 2 boom right ...you got it???"

Paul said..."you count"

I said "can you see yours good?"

He said "yes"

Fantastic Morning in the spring woods......

Called in a tiny little Jake off the roost....sounded better than he looked....I was runnin' and gunnin' for a while but had the bow and blind in the truck because of the threat of rain....figured I would sit tight with the bow where I know they strut....
Long quiet hour in the blind....I did not call much....I used my Cypress Slate in combo with a gobble shaker and it brought me a hen....she had a shadowing TOM!!! He never gobbled but would spit and drum with every other step...
He did not feel very good about his chances with my Jake Decoy as he turned and fanned him three times....the last time he did he was getting ready to scoot so I let the GT500 eat!!! Took off his left thigh and he couldn't get any lift!!!

Met a really cool Ol' Timer on the way home....I took a detour to photograph a covered bridge and ran into a guy fishing for trout...He told me to check out the information placard and we shot the bull about turkeys, deer, and fish... He was very nice and had a great sense of humor...reminded me of my Grandfather and I really enjoyed our conversation....Told me he was 89 and I could not believe it....Hope I am still out there doin' it up at that age!!! He sent me home with 2 trout...They will go nice with fresh Turkey and Morels!!! Nice chattin' with ya Deveaux.....
