The BUCKWILD Expo!!!

We had a fantastic time at the 1st of many Western Md. Buckwild Expos. The Buckwild Gang always puts on a fantastic event so we knew we were in for a great time.

There was a minor weather issue on Saturday but nothing that we couldnt handle. The kids made the best of it and played in the puddles while everyone stayed put and chatted through the heaviest downpours.

The Turnout was about as good as I expected for a first time show in a new location...I see this getting bigger and better as the word spreads.

The kids had tons to do and there was plenty to eat. Everyone was captivated buy the Giant Brown Bear. That poor dude looked hot with all that fur.

We were absolutely thrilled with the way the joint UltimateCamo/Team Overkill booth turned out with its new barnwood spruce up.

Jeff manned the charcoal grill the entire time and was filling the whole area with the smell of Chesapeake Bay Brats. The things sell themselves but it doesnt hurt to add a little cuteness in the form of a sample girl.

Nice to see everyone up there including the Jefferson Archery Gang and Youngs Wildlife. There were so many kids running around our booths that they kept each other busy and out of our hair....kinda...hehe

Even had a little time to try out the new bows on the 3D Range....

We are always looking to improve on the DVD...
I ask for feedback constantly and this year is no exception!!!
Please give us feedback on the movie whether it be good or bad...

I have mostly had good comments but some folks have not been thrilled with the music...especially the first year. We cannot please everyone but we just want to show how much fun we have every season...

This season as well as last I switched up and started using some awesome beats from The Passion Hi Fi and have been totaly impressed with this guy!!! Unbelievable music and it fits our style with the Urban Flare!!!

I am always looking to get better at the editing thing as well so I need to know what y'all think are strengths and weaknesses....

I guess besides the music the only other complaint we have really had was that we shoot some small bucks.....Well.................
I wish they could all be 150 plus monsters but the fact of the matter is we dont do this for a living and we are trying to make a vid so if a buck walks in front of us and wants to be a star he will be....A lot of the places we hunt are in need of severe deer management and we get asked by landowners to shoot them...The Landowners dont care what size or shape the deer are...They just want them thinned out....
We run the risk of losing a property if we pass on deer so it is a juggling act to try and shoot big bucks while thinning the herd!!!

Anyway....with the DVD being out now for a few days I have already recieved some very nice emails so here are a few I will share!!!

Chesapeake Bay Bratwurst/ Team Overkill/ UltimateCamo at upcoming Buckwild Hunters Expo in Boonesboro

Hey Guys....Team Overkill will be selling Barts Brats at the upcoming Buckwild Shows in Boonesboro and Charles County!!!

If you have never had this unique Bratwurst that originated on Marylands Eastern Shore you need to come out and try one!!! Garaunteed you will be wanting to take some home with you!!!



I know for a lot of you guys that love these things it is hard to get your hands on them on the western shore so if you want to get some frozen packs....Let me know if you have an idea as to how many you may want and I will bring to shows!!!

Tim Young is at it again!!!

I cannot wait to see the finished product on these two critters!!! These deer are featured stars on TOK season 3 "Community Service" Kevins big ole 9 point and my 5 year old freak!!! Tim asked what I wanted done with mine and I once again told him to have at it and surprise me... He only told me that the finished product will have a piece of habitat behind the wall pedestal form and I can only imagine what it will be from looking at the unfinished work!!!

















One look at kevins buck and you can see that it too is not an average form...I believe that this is the type of thing that will keep me going back to Youngs Wildlife for years to come... I am a big fan of knowing that there is not another mount out there like the one hanging on my wall...Tim will work with you on any idea you may have but I prefer to let the Artist work!!!

Rogers Elite Pure

Roger began sending me picture of his groups in what seemed like minutes of him telling me he had picked it up...After a few days of this I got a review of this sweet shooter via email!!!

I decided on the Pure over the Hunter due to the Axle to Axle length. I am 6' 2" and weigh a biscuit shy of NFL offensive lineman. The Hunter felt like a toy in my hands while the Pure felt more like my Tour (Elites Target Bow), well balanced, smooth drawing and holds like a rock.

I purchased the 30.5" 70 pound Ninja. Fellow Team Overkill Member Chris Johnson had the 30" Pure. His felt short to him while mine felt long so we swapped out the draw elements. After some timing , draw weight and holding weight (draw stop) checks and adjustments I was ready to go.

I like having a 65% to 70% holding weight over the factory set 80%. Using a back tension release or even a thumb release used with proper back tension form, having the extra holding weight helps in your holding and release. Normally I shoot a 29.5" but with the 30" draw element adjusted down to 70% letoff it holds the same as a 29.5"

Now set with Hinky Strings, QAD Ultra Rest HDX (love these rests), 10.25" 11 ounce B-Stinger Stabilizer and my last year Sword 3rd Axis sight I was ready to start sighting in. I set the rest at the normal 7/8" up off the shelf and the 13/16" over for centershot. One shot through paper let me know I was on.

I shot one shot at 10 yards to make sure the sight was close then stepped back to 20 yards and shot 3 shoots (camera phone photo attached). All three were low left of center but touching. Great start. Easy to make sight adjustments when you can group like this. A slight adjustment was made to the whole pin housing then I stepped back to 40 yards (my middle pin) and shot one. Very close to center but still slightly low left, let's go back to 60 yards. At 60 yards I shot 2 shots, both touching just slightly low left (camera phone photo attached). Another slight adjustment and back down to 20 yards and shot again - dead nuts on. Nine total shots and I had the bow sighted in out to 60 yards - how easy is that!


























Next was the true test - broadheads - this is not a target bow - this is a hunting bow. I use 50 yards as my check (normally the max I would attempt to shoot at a deer, so if I am good here I should be better even closer). I shot 2 field points then 2 broadheads. The broadheads hit slightly right of the field points. I adjusted the rest slightly out (just a fraction), shot again and we were hitting in the same spot. Locked it down and have been practicing solid ever since. From my 2010 GT500 to the 2011 Pure I did not have to make any adjustments in the pin gaps. I am getting the same speed from the Pure as I was with my GT 500 hunting bow. The only difference I feel is the Pure has a smoother draw all the way to a solid back wall. The GT 500 had just the slightest bump, not bad but now with the Pure it is completely gone.

I am not a Speed Demon, I would rather have a bow that is easy to draw, holds great and does not feel like it is jumping out of my hand at the shot. The Pure has all of that. At 70 pounds and 30" draw I can easily hold this bow at a 45 degree downward angle and come to full draw with no problems. With the Pure I can focus completely on the shot and not the draw cycle.

My arrow setup is a 29" Carbon Express (CX) Maxima Hunter 350 with 3 Bohning Blazer Vanes, CX Bulldog Collar, CX Lazer Eye Nock and 100 grain Rage 2 Blade Broadheads. Total arrow weight is 400 grains. With shooting 290 fps I am obtaining 74.72 foot pounds of energy. More than enough for any whitetail around.

I loved the GT 500 last year (so much so I had two - one is still setup for 3D - the other has been setup by Jeff Harrison with Cuda Cams, Hinky Strings and 50 pound Ultimate Camo dipped limbs for my wife) but I think I have a new lover for the fall 2011. Still in the Elite family, just with the younger hotter sister of the GT 500. My wife is going to be a hunting widow again this year. As long as I can keep the nerves in check I should be easily filling freezers again this fall.

It's time to hit the hunting shows so we needed to do a little spruce up on the booth... It was only a hair over a hundred degrees the last 3 days so why not right??? Pheeeeew!!!!

Jeff is a real carpenter so he uses a level.  I am not really sure what that does... Hehe. I just us my internal level...I mean come on... It's barnwood!!!

Look closely and you will see skin on the drill bit... That is from my finger... Slipped off a screw and punctured my finger up to the end of the screw head... Felt AWESOME!!! It's par for the course for me though... No hospital visit this time...

Andy's UltimateCamo Elite Hunter

This may very well be the coolest looking hunting bow I have ever seen. We all love to rock the all black ninja look of the Elite Bows. However, Andy is the owner of Ultimate Camo so it is fitting that he would want his dipped in his own design. That is just what he did. Andy sent his bow to Nostalgia Works... (www.nostalgiaworksmd.com) where we have had lots of things dipped in the past. Andy and Jeff came up with an idea to leave the inlays of the bow black as well as the under side of the limbs. What came back is truly a work of art. This ridiculous creation deserves a cool set of strings so Hinky made a variation on the original Maryland strings. Here are pics of a bow that looks as good as it shoots!!!

Jeff's Review of the new 2011 Elite Hunter

Working on bows and shooting at Jeff's house always a fun time. In one of our most recent practice sessions Jeff could not stop raving about his Hunter. Now this was not supposed to be the set up for this season. Jeff is shooting the Hunter that I had ordered and I am shooting his Pulse. I was loving what I was hearing about the Hunter so that is what I ordered. I had heard it compared to the GT500 and that is absolutely the best shooting bow I have had in years. To me it was a no brainer that I would love shooting the Hunter as well. Well as normally happens, Jeff gets my bow to set up. ( Why would I set it up when I can get one of JLH's Supertunes!!!) He was diggin' it. He told me it was holding like a rock and was super forgiving. That all sounded good to me but after hearing the speed report which while its not hateful....(In fact it is faster than almost any bow I have owned with my stubby arms at 280fps with a 340 gr. arrow) I was craving a little more speed.

He loved it so much he suggested a straight up trade for the Pulse!

I was game so the swap began...It really didn't take to much work as we both shoot about the same equipment. We just had to get Hinky to make us new strings in our size and colors of choice......again.....He was pretty salty let me tell ya....and we were in business!!! He shoots this thing well and is constatly raving so I asked him to write me a review. What follows is Jeff's Review of the 2011 Elite Hunter. I will be posting a review of Rogers Pure followed by my Pulse!!!

Review of the Hunter
I’ll start off with cosmetics….fit and finish are perfect, after all, it’s an Elite…I wouldn’t expect anything less from them.
I purchased a 70# ninja Hunter at 27”
After I got my Hinky strings put on, everything fell right into spec. 31 ¾ ATA and 7 ½” BH and maxed at 71.7#
Setting centershot and nock height are second nature to me…simple 7/8” off the shelf and 13/16” centershot.
For nock height…. with the bow level, I set the arrow “just” out of level, with the bubble just touching the back line (nock high)
I will usually run about 10 to 15 shots through it to set the strings, then time the cams….once that’s done, it’s off to sight it in.
3 shots at 25 yds and I had that pin set, then checked 45 yds…left and right were spot on, so I proceeded to set the pin gaps…after about 20 shots, this bow is ready for the woods.
I’m shooting Carbon Express Blue Streaks 250’s with 100 grain points…total arrow weight is 332 gr.
I know the Hunter isn’t a speed demon, but it is spitting arrows nicely down range.
Overall, the Hunter is a ridiculously smooth bow. It holds like a rock (feels like a much longer ATA bow) it is plenty forgiving, and easily the quietest Elite I’ve owned….and quickly becoming my favorite.

Sighting in my new ELITE PULSE !   I'm pretty sure if I can kill this itty bitty deer at 40 yards I should be good!   This thing is smokin! 300fps for a short fat boy is ok with me!

Youngs Wildlife

After setting up my new bow last night at Jefferson Archery, Jeff and I headed over to Youngs Wildlife for a SCI meeting where tim was going to demonstrate how to properly care for big game when traveling. While the seminar was taking place I could not help but venture out in to the show room which really is like something out of National Geographic. I have been there quite a few times but I always find something new and cool to look at!!!
